Los Angeles, CA. – Social media and technology dominate our lives. Stress and anxiety levels are rising due to many external demands from career, divisive political campaign, uncertainty over the economy, cultural and society issues and others. Many people are suffering physically, mentally or spiritually in one way or another and are seeking for ways to calm their mind from the busy racing thoughts or distractions that obsessing and worrying over cause sickness and depression. People are seeking to participate in activities that can reduce their stress level, and physically improve their mental/physical state and overall quality of life.
Yoga is a practice that has been scientifically studied by researchers, with impressive results from those studies that indicate yoga can prevent disease, alleviate pain, and improve the body, mind and spiritual for those seeking deeper spirituality.
The physical benefits of yoga are many. They include increased flexibility in the muscles, core strength, strength and tone. It helps to improve the body’s respiration, energy and vitality. Immune system balanced metabolism. For individuals seeking weight loss, it can help you lose weight. Improve your heart through cardio and circulatory health. Athletes can improve their athletic performance. The strengthening of your body can help reduce and protect you from injury.
The mental benefits of yoga are wide ranging also. It’s not surprising that stress levels and anxiety levels are rising, as well as depression and people feel overwhelmed, frustrated, distracted and over stimulated by all the social media, technology, external stimulus and personal issues. Consistent yoga practice is shown to improve depression and led to a significant increase in serotonin levels and a decrease in the levels of monoamine oxidase (an enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters) and cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone involved in the regulation of metabolism in the cells and helps us regulate stress within the body. One thing that all stress has in common is that it increases the level of this very powerful hormone which if not reduced can affect your immune system and overall physical health. Yoga calms your mind, gives you inner peace, improves your self-esteem, creates awareness, benefits your relationships, helps you focus and relaxes your mind and body. In addition, it maintains your central nervous system, reduces tension, and helps you sleep better.
With an estimated 20 million practicing yogis in the U.S., and with yoga studios popping up all over the city, Los Angeles is becoming a health-finess-wellness transformational force in communities. Recently hip-hop godfather and fashion-film mogul Russell Simmons (a yogi himself) recently opened his first yoga studio called Tantris in West Hollywood.
