Two Olympic gold medals, a world cup title, and winning the Golden ball award after her phenomenal performance in the Women’s World Cup final against Japan, you may think Carli Lloyd has won it all, think again. January 11, 2016 Carli Lloyd was awarded the World’s Best Women’s Soccer Player of the Year award for the year of 2015 which consisted of her hat trick spectacular during the first 15 minutes of the first half that gave the U.S Women’s Soccer team a huge lead eventually resulting in their third world cup title. It was not only that she scored 3 goals that crowned her being the best player of the tournament, but how she scored with pure determination and poise. Those two factors paid off well, for her third goal was scored from 30 yards out of the soccer field, off her second touch towards receiving the ball, Carli Lloyd delivered what is known as the number 1 best goal of the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
It may seem like a coincidence that Carli Lloyd found herself at the right place at the right time, but she is no stranger when it comes to elevating her level of play on match days where victory and being crowned champion is at stake. Back in 2008, she scored the victory goal for the U.S Women’s Soccer team in the gold medal match at the Beijing Summer Olympic games against Brazil in extra time, awarding team USA the gold medal. Fast forward to 2012 at the London Olympic Games, she scored not one but two goals against Japan in the gold medal match at Wembly Stadium. It is because of her focus and drive towards leading her team to victory that evidently she is viewed as one of the new captains for the U.S Women’s Soccer Team alongside Becky Sauerbrunn who will both captain the team to qualify for the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the next Women’s World Cup in France.
Before being awarded the Best Women’s Soccer Player of the Year award, Carli Lloyd also won the 2008 and 2015 U.S Soccer Female Athlete of the Year award, along in winning U.S Soccer’s best goal also for 2008 and 2015. Truly Carli Lloyd has proven her qualities as a soccer player to be very impactful then and now, as to being a player who steps into the field, hungry to lead the charge in winning every game and championship but most importantly playing like the champion within her which is why she deserved to have won the Women’s World Player of the Year award at the Fifa Ballon d’ Or ceremony 2016.
